Safety and Security

Waconia Public Schools is committed to providing safe and welcoming schools for all of our students, staff, families and visitors. In Waconia, school safety is a multi-faceted undertaking that involves building design, technology, drills, timely communication, building relationships with local law enforcement, and continuously reviewing and improving our procedures and protocols.

Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, Waconia Public Schools started using new language to communicate incidents and will now use the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation. This protocol is used in more than 30,000 schools, districts, departments, agencies, organizations, and communities around the world. The SRP is based on five actions and each action is followed by a directive. The outcome is shared language and shared expectations between people in a crisis. The SRP is not a replacement for a school safety plan or program. It is simply a classroom response enhancement for critical incidents, designed to provide consistent, clear, shared language and actions among all students, staff, and first responders.

More information about the Standard Response Protocol can be accessed below.

Providing healthy, balanced meals to our students is our purpose & getting these meals at no charge is a wonderful benefit for our families. All students in MN can receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day. For a meal to qualify as free, a serving of a fruit or vegetable must be taken along with the entrée at breakfast and lunch.

TIPS FOR FAMILIES:

1. Family Accounts must have a positive balance to purchase a la carte items. All balances from last year have been carried forward. Review your account activity frequently, and keep an adequate balance available to cover student purchases.

2. Deposits - a credit card deposit is usually applied to the family account within 10 minutes, payments by check or cash may take up to 4 days. *Consider the auto-refill option in your Wordware account. It prevents your account from going negative and disallowing students to make purchases.

3. A la Carte - all Middle and High School students can purchase items a la carte, see price list below. These transactions are visible to the student during checkout; everyone is encouraged to monitor their purchases. Cashiers do not limit, or supervise student a la carte purchases.

4. E-Mail notifications - families will receive an e-mail notification from Wordware once their account goes negative. You can adjust this in your Wordware account.

5. Milk Only - when a student takes a glass of milk, they must also select a serving of fruit AND a serving of vegetable; this combination will meet the requirements to receive a free meal.

6. If your child has a food allergy, please contact your school nurse.

7. Go to www.cafe110.org for more information including menus, meal pricing, meal benefit application, frequently asked questions, contact information, and lunch account balance/ transaction/ deposit information.

8. Wordware and SmartSchool are linked and you can access your family lunch account through either website. Because of this, be advised that any activity fee payments will also show up on your Wordware transaction report.
