MESSAGE SENT TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS: JANUARY 10, 2022
Dear ISD 110 Parents and Students,
The Covid Omicron variant has hit our school community very hard since the return from winter break. Our school district is close to the 5% threshold of our student and staff population having tested positive for Covid. The 5% threshold is used for an increase to Covid mitigation strategies at ONE10. We are seeing an unprecedented spread of the Omicron variant, especially at Waconia High School. We are experiencing hundreds of students out and dozens of teachers currently isolating at home. With the speed of the spread, this is not a sustainable model. The ISD 110 school board met this evening, Monday, January 10, to discuss the best and safest way to move the district forward.
-
After much discussion, the school board decided to implement a temporary mask mandate for all students, teachers and staff, district-wide, starting on Tuesday, January 11. This temporary mask mandate will be in effect through Monday, January 31. The school board will revisit this decision at the ISD 110 School Board meeting on Monday, January 31.
-
In order to help slow down the rampant spread at Waconia High School among students and teachers, Waconia High School will move to distance learning on Thursday, January 13.
-
High School students will be in school on Tuesday, January 11.
-
High School teachers prep on Wednesday, January 12 and students are not in school.
-
Distance Learning at Waconia High School starts on Thursday, January 13.
-
High School students and staff return to in-person learning on Monday, January 24.
-
-
ONE10 activities will continue to follow current calendars and scheduled events, yet expected to follow the temporary mask mandate.
We understand that these decisions have a dramatic impact on everyone and we are doing what we feel is best for the ONE10 community. It will take all of us working together to get through this.
The hope is that masking everyone and moving Waconia High School students to distance learning will be an effective temporary switch so we can keep staff and students safe during this outbreak. It will also help with our substitute staffing concerns and help us potentially deliver in-person learning from February on.
Thanks for your understanding and support.
We will get through this together.
WE Are ONE10!!
Pat Devine, Superintendent
