Congratulations to Waconia High School seniors Abigail Krcil and Alex Kearney, who have been named the school’s 2025 AAA Award recipients.

Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts and Athletics Award (Triple “A”) is a unique recognition program sponsored by the MSHSL. The award goes to high school seniors who have at least a 3.0 or better grade point average and who are active in fine arts and athletic activities. The purpose of this program is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in fine arts, as well as to elevate academic standards and create greater awareness of the value of high school activities.

Krcil is a clarinetist in the school’s Wind Ensemble, participates in the marching band colorguard, and has been a rifle captain the past two years. She is a founding member of the Waconia Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter and is a two-time state DECA participant. She is a member of the Wildcat cross country and track and field teams, as well as the National Honor Society. Academically, has taken a number of advanced placement and PSEO courses and maintains a 4.0 grade point average.

“Academics, athletics, and arts have been important to Abigail as she has grown over the years,” Waconia Middle School Music Teacher and Marching Band Colorguard Director Susan Snorek said. “I have watched her go from being a very timid youngster, afraid to try new things, to a strong, confident leader in all areas of her schooling and activities.”

Kearney plays the trumpet in the high school’s Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, and is also a member of the school’s 32-voice Select Chamber Choir. Along with participating in track and field, Kearney is a two-year captain of the boys swimming and diving team and multi-year state tournament participant. As a junior, he combined with three teammates to place 6th in the 200-yard medley relay at the State Meet and earn All-State honors. Kearney has taken a number of advanced placement and College in the Schools courses, is a member of the National Honor Society, and maintains a 3.925 grade point average.

“I have had the distinct pleasure of having Alex as a student in my Physics classes at Waconia High School. He has not only risen to the top of the class academically, but has also shown to be a leader to his fellow students,” Waconia High School Science Teacher Micahel Hamann said. “Through his time at Waconia High School, Alex has played a crucial role on the swim team, track team, and the National Honor Society, and has shown his dedication and leadership in each of these organizations.”
