BOARD VOTES UNANIMOUSLY TO PLACE $3 MILLION OPERATING LEVY QUESTION ON NOVEMBER BALLOT
The Board voted unanimously to place an operating levy question on the November 2025 ballot, seeking $3 million annually to help maintain the high-quality educational programs and exceptional staff our community values.
If approved by voters, the funds would be used to sustain class sizes, support student programming, and retain high-quality teachers and staff—preserving the strong educational foundation our schools are known for. More information about the operating levy and what it means for our schools and taxpayers will be shared in the coming weeks and months.
SEVEN NAMED TO ALL-STATE CHOIRS
Seven Waconia High School students have been selected to participate in various Minnesota All-State Choirs sponsored by the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA). Congratulations to Oliver McKeever, Julian Riemer, Keira Semeja, Ayla Sufka, Bennett Trapp, Miles Tyhurst and Hayden Warner!
MMEA’s All-State program is considered the top program of its kind across the nation and aims to develop the finest musicians and leaders among Minnesota’s most accomplished high school students. Selected choir students attend camp in August, where they meet their guest conductor and attend hours of rehearsals and sectionals. All-State students will then meet again in February to perform at Orchestra Hall as part of the MMEA Midwinter Convention.
ACCOMPLISHED WACONIA EDUCATORS NAMED FOR 2025
The Waconia Education Association has announced that Michael Hamann, Lisa Kalthoff and Wendy Sweeney are the 2025 recipients of the Accomplished Waconia Educators Award. The three recipients will now go on to represent Waconia Public Schools in the 2025-26 Minnesota Teacher of Year program next fall. More than 50 educators were nominated for the award this year.
Hamann is a physics teacher at Waconia High School who is finishing his 16th year of teaching in Waconia. Kalthoff is a fourth grade teacher at Laketown Elementary School who is finishing her 26th year of teaching in Waconia. Sweeney is a second grade teacher at Southview Elementary School who is finishing her 28th year of teaching in Waconia.
