Congratulations to Waconia High School senior Franklin Sucansky for being named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Franklin is one of approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students are identified by placing in the top 2-3% of all students who take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

ARNITA, ROSIN AND WILSON ELECTED TO SCHOOL BOARD
Voters elected candidates Heather Arnita, Ryan Rosin and Amanda Wilson to four-year terms on the ISD 110 School Board in the election held on November 5. The final vote totals were as follows: Amanda Wilson (5,119), Ryan Rosin (4,586), Heather Arnita (3,616), Mark Tregarthen (3,425), Dana Geller (3,140), Bridget Liverca (3,133), and Darcie Baumann (2,802).
The Board plans to hold its annual organizational meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, where the newly elected members will take a ceremonial oath of office and officers (chair, vice-chair, treasurer) will be appointed.
WHS NAMED TO AP SCHOOL HONOR ROLL
Waconia High School has been named to the College Board's 2023-24 AP School Honor Roll. Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing their school's college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
During the 2023-24 school year, 300 Waconia High School students took an advanced placement class. Those students took 440 A.P. tests in the spring, and 88% of those students achieve a score of 3 or better on at least one test.
MARIANNE SANNITO NAMED FINALIST FOR ESP OF THE YEAR
Southview Elementary Educational Support Professional (ESP) Marianne Sannito has been named one of five finalists for Education Minnesota’s 2024-25 ESP of the Year Award. Sannito has worked in Waconia Public Schools for 12 years. In addition to Sannito being named a finalist, Waconia Middle School ESP Miki Nahmensen and Early Childhood ESP Sarah Wabbe were named semifinalists for the award. Nahmensen has worked in Waconia Public Schools for nine years, while Wabbe has served in the District for four years.
